Who Blogged the Very First Post?

Posted on March 20, 2007

Who blogged the very first post of all-time? Who is the blog father? CNET has an article about the start of blogging that includes an interesting timeline on blogging. The article discusses several early bloggers including Justin Hall, Carolyn Burke, Jorn Barger and Dave Winer.

CNET says, "In truth, awarding the title "first blogger" is more than a little tricky because the definitions of blog and blogger are slippery. Any definition should probably include posts sorted by date, with the newest posts at the top and the rest archived for future use (criteria that would eliminate the Drudge Report, for instance)."

CNET also notes that Dave Winer currently says on his Scripting News site that he has the "longest currently running Web log on the Internet."

The bloggers mentioned above certainly deserve credit and recognition for fueling the blogging trend. There were a lot of lesser known people keeping web journals and online diaries back in the mid 90s before anyone called it a blogging. The article also talks about the .plan files that people used to pass around in Unix. The .plan file was invented in the 1970s - well before today's blogs.
