Yahoo Plans to Overhaul Yahoo 360
Yahoo 360, the blogging and social networking service from Yahoo, may be undergoing an overhaul. Technically, the service appears to still be in beta even though the site launch in March, 2005. The Yahoo 360 logo still has the word beta included on it. PC World says Yahoo is the sixth leading blogging and social networking site according to a September ComScore Report. A post on Between the Lines about Yahoo's plans for changes at Yahoo 360 cites Yahoo co-founder David Filo as mentioning acquisitions.
Dave McClure, from the audience, asked why Yahoo hasn't acquired Six Apart's blogging tools or Facebook to gain some faster traction in blogging and social networking. Horowitz responded, "We put Yahoo 360 out there and learned a lot from it. 360 may be doing a 180, and change and adapt to address the opportunities." He didn't offer any specifics as to what the 180 degree turn looks like.
Filo added, "We are absolutely interested in blogging, and we hope five years from now to be a major player in that space. We will look at acquisitions."
There is no word of any upcoming changes posted recently to the Yahoo 360 Team Blog. If they do make changes to Yahoo 360 they should try and provide more blog friendly URLs. The current blog URLs even for the Yahoo 360 Team Blog have strings of characters like "1qCkw2Ehaak.hdNZkEAzDrpa4Q."

Yahoo 360 Adds New Features
Yahoo 360 blogs that they have added some new features to the Yahoo 360 blogging service. They call it the "most exciting release since the day we launched." Some of the new features include highlights, the ability to highlight your best blog posts; interesting pages, a look at some of the most interesting stuff being posted on Yahoo 360; blog calendars; blog theme backgrounds and a friends feature. The friends feature, which allows people to add friends to their blog, is similar to the popular friend feature found on social networking websites like MySpace.com and Friendster. The post on the Yahoo 360 blog has comments from Yahoo 360 users about the new features as well as requests for additional features they want Yahoo to add. (Via Search Engine Watch blog)

Walter Mossberg Tests Blogging Tools From Google, MSN and Yahoo
Walter Mossberg, a technology writer for WSJ.com, has tested three of the major blogging tools with his assistant Katie Boehret. Mossberg said they found MSN Spaces was the easiest to use -- with Yahoo 360 coming in a close second. He said Blogger.com had a long way to go before becoming as easy to use as MSN Spaces and Yahoo 360.
While using these three sites, we paid careful attention to how each blog-creating service handled four basic tasks: publishing text entries, or "posting" as it is called in blog land; adding photos; publishing links to other Web pages on our blogs; and providing privacy (if desired) online. We also took note of the overall style and formatting options provided on each site.
Our verdict: Microsoft's MSN Spaces did the best job of performing these tasks in a way that was organized and self-explanatory. Yahoo 360 was almost as easy, but it tries to tie in the use of too many other Yahoo services. Blogger.com has a long way to go until it becomes as easy to use as the others.

Yahoo 360 Blog Infrequently Updated
The Yahoo 360 Blog launched on 4-19-05 with a bad URL (http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-1qCkw2Ehaak.hdNZkEAzDrpa4Q--) and the following promise:
We're going to aim to keep it informal -- no marketing speak or soap box stuff -- just a way for us to share what's new, or some cool new way we or our customers have found to get more from the product. We plan to post regularly here. Sometimes we'll have an important announcement -- bug fixes, workarounds or new features. Other times we'll just want to share whatever happens to be top of mind for the team.
Ok. It has been over a week and Yahoo 360's new blog only has one post. However, that one blog entry does have 69 comments so maybe that will keep it going for a little while.
