Study Finds Inc. 500 Companies Are Blogging Less

Posted on January 30, 2012

The Center for Marketing Research at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has reported the results of its 2011 study on the blogging habits of the 2011 Inc. 500 companies. The study found that blogging by the Inc. 500 declined for the first time in 2011. 50% off the Inc. 500 maintained blogs in 2010. This dropped to 37% in 2011.

The Center for Marketing Research says blogging is being substituted for other tools, such as Facebook and Twitter. They say there has been an has been an increase in the use of Facebook and Twitter continuing a long trend.

The definition of blogging comes into play here. One could argue that posting updates on Facebook and tweets on Twitter are both forms of blogging. Twitter has been described as microblogging. So, traditional blogging may be declining, but the overall use of social media is still increasing.
