Writer Blogs About Raising Wild Coyote
Writer and photographer Shreve Stockton has been blogging about a wild coyote she adopted for several months now on her blog called the Daily Coyote. She adopted the coyote after both his parents were shot for killing sheep. Shreve named the coyote Charlie. Charlie has been staying with Shreve and her cat Eli at her home in Wyoming - she lives in rural small town with a popular of just 300.
Time has passed since Shreve adopted Charlie and he is much bigger. Charlie's not a puppy anymore. He recently made his first howl and his first kill (a mouse).
Shreve does have a coyote expert named MC who has been helping her with Charlie. If you a get a chance read the blog from the beginning. It's a fascinating story and there are terrific photographs of Charlie. There are few videos here on YouTube as well.
You can find some more discussion of Shreve's Coyote Diary on Neatorama, Red Orbit, Outdoors Blog, Lockergnome and latimes.com.

Dogster Raises $1 Million
VentureBeat reports that Dogster has raised $1 million in financing. VentureBeat also blogs about how dog owners are writing diaries from the dogs point of view.
But more interestingly, owners are pretending they are the dogs, and writing little diaries, and the diaries are often becoming more about themselves, as seen through their dogs eyes. Take, for example, the "dog of the week," a dalmatian/labrador retriever (pictured here) named "TK." You can see all kinds of things on his profile, including character traits, hobbies, and you can also check out his diary. And this is where it gets interesting. As is typical elsewhere on the site, TK's diary quickly becomes more about "Mommy" or "Daddy," less about TK. Under pretense of their dogs doing the talking, owners are expressing themselves in all kinds of ways that they wouldn't normally.
Thanks to VentureBeat we now know it was not the dogs who were writing all those diaries. Parents often do the same with baby blogs and write them from the child's point of view. VentureBeat says the popular Dogster site received 17 million pageviews last month. Dogster has a direct competitor at Pawspot and there are also several other pet social networks.

Cesar Millan: The Blog Whisperer
Cesar Millan has had a blog for the popular The Dog Whisperer show for a while now to discuss dog behavior and his popular television show on the National Geographic Channel. Cesar has really picked up the blogging pace as of late with a slew of posts for July 31st including this post about training dogs humans.
Remember, dog training focuses on getting the dog to respond to human commands. Dog psychology is really training humans to understand how dogs function, communicate, and fulfill their lives without human-created techniques.
A well-trained dog in the sense of traditional dog training doesn’t necessarily make for a balanced dog, any more than a Harvard degree makes for a balanced human being. You can teach almost any dog to sit, come, stay, or heel because most dogs are easily conditioned to respond to commands with positive reinforcement. True understanding of dog psychology results in your dog staying next to you on a walk, even as you pass by another dog, someone riding a bike, or a noisy garbage truck.
Cesar Millan sounds like he is just as effective at training humans online as he is offline. The 7-31-06 posts are new so they don't have many comments yet but in the past posts on the Dog Whisperer blog have received dozens of comments.
