Google to Ban Most Nude Imagery on Blogger

Posted on February 24, 2015

Google has updated its adult content policy for Blogger. The update is to ban users from publicly sharing images and videos that are sexually explicit or show graphic nudity" on the blogging service.

The new content terms go into effect on March 23, 2015. Google says blogs with this type of content will be made private after March 23, 2015. Google will make an exception for nudity that "offers a substantial public benefit, for example in artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific contexts."

Google says it will not delete content for existing blogs (blogs created before March 23, 2015) but the blog will be changed to a private status. This means only owners and admins of the blog and people the blog has been shared with will be able to view its content.

Users who want to keep their adult content on a public blog are advised to export the blog as an .xml file or using Google Takout to move the blog to another blogging platform.

TechCrunch reports that Google cracked down on Blogger blogs monetizing adult content in 2013. Google has similar policies about adult content on its AdWords/AdSense programs and has been making adult content more difficult to find on its search engine in recent years.
