Another Print Blogging Magazine: Artful Blogging
There is a second print publication about blogging called Artful Blogging. We blogged about the launch of Blogger & Podcaster magazine nearly a year ago but we missed the debut of this quarterly publication that also launched in 2007. Artful Blogging is focused more on creative blogging and the artwork and photography found on these arts and crafts blogs.
Take a virtual tour of some of the most visually inspiring blogs on the internet with the second issue of Artful Blogging! Each page of this captivating publication is like a digital gallery, filled with photography, artwork and blog excerpts sure to stir your imagination. Within this 144-page quarterly publication, you'll find features that include "Blogging Etiquette," "Blogger's Must-Haves" and "How to Get Started" on your own blog spot
You can see a few sample pages from Artful Blogging here. The quarterly magazine is published by Stampington & Company.
Artful Blogging is now on its second issue. Several blogggers were more on top of things and caught the launch of this new print publication. The Guardian's blog provides a good explanation of what the blog is all about. Other blogs discussing Artful Blogging include Artsy Mama, Persisting Stars, Navylane and Blogher.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia to Launch Marthapedia
Ad Age recently reported (hat tip 5 Blogs Before Lunch) that the new social network and user-generated content website from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia will be called Marthapedia.
Martha Stewart, the paragon of expertise as content, is adopting the style of social media for her next website -- to be called "Marthapedia." But Ms. Stewart, who didn't get where she is by suggesting that the hoi polloi know more than she does, made clear that Marthapedia will not be so freewheeling as, say, Wikipedia. Editors at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia will check to see if the public's ideas are better than their own, she said.
The site initially will be seeded with existing content from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, such as Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook, but will open for information and suggestions from the public, Ms. Stewart told an Advertising Week audience this morning. "It will be a very interesting site," she said.
That's a slight change from last year when the buzz was that the new Martha Stewart website was going to be more of a social network. Bloggers tossed around name ideas like MarthaSpace and MyMartha. Marthapedia already has plenty of competition from crafts blogs and websites geared towards crafters but there's likely room for expert and user-generated content organized and overseen by Martha Stewart's staff. Martha Stewart does have her own crafts line and she is known for her creative ideas. Martha Stewart's web products have always had more of a guru attidute than a web community so it will be interesting to see whether wikis are a good thing for the craft, fashion, recipe and weddings giant. It will also be interesting to see if they ever try anything new like targeting the growing technology modding trend you see on sites like Makezine.com -- it seems like they are missing one of the biggest do-it-yourself trends.

Is the Next Martha Stewart a Blogger?
Here is an interesting topic coming out of Day Two of the BlogHer conference. BlogHer co-founder Elisa Camahort asks the question, Is the Next Martha Stewart a Blogger?
When we launched this new site and people started listing their blogs I was blown away by the blogs about cooking and knitting and crafts and gardening and everything else having to do with what goes on inside (and immediately outside) the home. Blogs with huge followings and sense of community; blogs with amazing visuals; blogs that brought back the feeling I had when I first bought my little house...that I wanted to be the next Martha Stewart. (That would be Martha the maker of beautiful things and very good business, of course, not Martha the felon.)
Much as eBay provided a path to profitability for a whole new breed of micro-business owners, blogs have created a similar opportunity. And food and arts & crafts bloggers are leading the way among bloggers who are building businesses.
There are tens of thousands of blogs covering arts, cooking and crafts. The panel included several BlogHers that are using their blogs commercially.
The panel included Maggie Mason, author of the Mighty Goods blog; Pim Techamuanvivit, who created the Menu for Hope charity for Kashmiri earthquakes victims; author Gayla Trail who blogs at You Grow Girl; Andrea Scher who sells hand-crafted jewelry and blogs at Superhero Journal; and Marnie MacLean who blogs and also sells knit and crochet patterns.
These BlogHers are just a small sample of the many bloggers who use their blogs to sell items like art, books, crafts and music. We mentioned an interesting artist the other day who is using his blog to sell paintings of tech gadgets. Will the next Martha Stewart be a blogger? It certainly seems possible. Of course, Martha Stewart is launching a social networking site next year. Maybe a blog written by Martha will be included.

Martha Stewart Living Plans Social Network
News.com reports that Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is building an online social network that will allow users to share information like scrapbooks and recipes.
The network would appeal to women aged 25 to 45, and allow members to share photographs, scrapbooks, recipes and similar projects with one another and home design experts, said the company's chief executive, Susan Lyne.
"There is no place like MySpace, like Friendster, for that demographic," Lyne said at a financial conference.
The social network would be part of the Marthastewart.com Web site, founded by lifestyle expert Martha Stewart, rather than a separate Web site like MySpace.
The community is tentatively scheduled to launch in the second half of 2007, spokeswoman Elizabeth Estroff said.
Some bloggers are referring to the Martha Stewart social network as MarthaSpace. AdPulp calls it MyMartha. Micropersuasion is concerned that the network is not launching until 2007 but they could be trying to get advertisers first before spending a bunch of money on the technology. They have a powerful brand and can probably afford to be more patient than the start-ups. A lot of media companies were burned during the last big round of web community building -- the Geocities days. More discussion here, here, here, here and here. Reuters also a story about Martha's social networking plans. When will Martha blog? That's the real question we want answered.

New Blog Covers All Things Craft Related
Whip Up is a new multi-contributor or group blog covering handmade and craft related items and projects. The blog is the brainchild of Kathreen Ricketson who says she "wanted a central meeting place for ideas and projects and technical advice for all the latest that is handmade around the world." Whip Up was recommended by Drawn!, a popular multi-author blog devoted to illustration, art, cartooning and drawing. Drawn! said that Whip Up is "like Drawn! for crafters." Drawn! also said that one of its contributers, Claire Robertson, will also be contributing at Whip Up.
