Gidol Hosts Google Video Lip-synch Contests

Posted on August 1, 2006

Some music lovers are making use of Google Video to host their own video competitions. A website called Gidol runs contests for music videos which feature contestants lip-syncing their favorite songs in homemade videos.

Gidol is an online competition for the many talented (and not so talented) people out there who have been waiting for their moment of fame. The competition places publicly submitted videos from Google Video in a head-to-head knockout tournament of heats and finals until the a victorious winner is announced.

Popularity is judged by the public who vote for their favourite video - and you can vote once a day for the Gidol you want to win. Votes are tallied at the end of the competition and the video with the highest number of votes will be named the winner. Winners will not only receive the the prestigious bragging rights only the true winners know of, but are also inducted into the Gidol Hall of Fame.

You can see a list of current and pass Gidols here. Some of the Gidol participants also have their own websites. There is also a Gidol Hall of Fame. Gidol has received considerable publicity. They were most recently featured in a Sydney Morning Herald article called, "No budget, no voice? You too can be a star." The Gidol site and contests are not affiliated with Google. The only connection is that videos are uploaded to Google Video.
