Big Web Brands Compete for Blogopshere Marketshare

Posted on March 16, 2005

All the major web brands are involved with weblogs in one or another. Amazon's A9 search tool already has a blog search tool that searches what it calls the "top blogs." While on A9 press the add more tabs link on the right and it will bring up the top blog search option. Google owns Blogger.com but has yet to launch a search engine specifically for weblogs, although blogs are frequent results in its main search results and news search engine results. And Ask Jeeves recently purchased Bloglines, one of the leading online news aggregators. The My.Yahoo RSS aggregator on Yahoo lets people display RSS headlines on their custom homepage.

The major search engines are also competing in advertising. Following Google's AdSense success, Yahoo is rumored to be developing a text ad network which will allow blogs and websites to participate. Microsoft is also working on one for its search engine. Yahoo is also developing a blogging service, called Yahoo 360. Both Microsoft and Google already offer blogging services.
