reports that Apple plans to shutter Ping, its music social network, on September 30th. This will be a little over two years after Apple launch Ping on September 1, 2010. The Ping iTunes page (
www.apple.com/itunes/ping/) currently reroutes users to the iTunes homepage.
Apple CEO Tim Cook
said at the All Things D Conference in May that Apple didn't need to own a social network. He said, "Apple needs to be social, but it doesn't have to own a social network."
